The Niger Delta Development Commission{NDDC} has been advised to engage in projects that are beneficial to the people of Akwa Ibom rather than politicizing its activities in the state.

This was made known by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr Essien Ndueso while answering questions from journalist in his office.
He decried the negligence of the state in the radar of projects execution of the agency, despite being the highest producer of crude oil in the country, saying that political affiliation should not be a basis for project execution.

“The NDDC being an intervention agency of the Federal Government and funded by the state alongside other oil producing states and by virtue of being the highest producer of oil should accord Akwa Ibom greater attention,” he said.

He said the projects promised by the agency such as the Hospital road at Abak, the dualized Abak-Ikot Abasi road, the access road at Uniuyo Permanent site amongst others have been abandoned.

He further dismissed speculations on some social media platforms, championed by the opposition elements in the state, who acclaimed the negligence of the state by the NDDC was due to a supposed rift between the Governor & the commission boss Mr. Nsima Ekere.

Mr Ndueso maintained that there is no evidence of such rift, especially as the Governor is more focused on his five{5} points agenda for the state one of which is political and economic inclusionwhich has seen him throwing open his door to every stakeholder ready to join him in the task of state building.

“ The Governor threw open his door and received his opponent in the last governorship election, Mr Umana Umana the Managing Director of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, and together they explored ways of speedy implementation of trade services in the state waterways, to the admiration of everyone.
“That is why the governor repeatedly calls on the NDDC management to come for collaborations on targeted people-oriented projects for the betterment of the state,” a call which he said, that has been heeded by several development partners from within and outside the country.

He advised the NDDC not to politicize developments in the state but rather join hands with the present administration in taking the state to greater heights in terms of Scholarship, road construction, youths empowerment amongst others.

He also condemned the poor execution of numerous projects which the commission had claimed it completed describing it as disheartening, thereby causing residents of the area untold hardship.

“The truth is that if you go to Itu Road, Nelson Mandela street, Ebong Essien and School road all at the University of Uyo axis of the state, you will see that the so –much touted roads constructed by the NDDC last year, have all become death traps, prompting a massive outcry by the indigenes.”

The governor’s aide insisted that those roads in the diary of the NDDC have been executed and paid for, whereas the residents of the areas are worse off, from the adverse effects of those projects.
