2019 APC gubernatorial ticket: Udoedeghe, Nsima Ekere clash
..As over 1,500 APC members defect to PDP in Oruk Anam
By Divine Sam
Controversies have continued to trail the gubernatorial ambition of Sen. John James Udoedeghe and that of the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, Obong Nsima Ekere under the All Progressives Congress.
A reliable source hinted us through a phone call that the aspiration of the former senator was becoming a threat especially to the camp of the former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom state, Nsima Where, who is currently the MD of the NDDC, considering the fact that the former minister has done enough to have his ways to get the party’s ticket and could eventually earn him a shot to the hilltop mansion of the state.
It would be recalled that this paper once reported how the MD of the NDDC was pleading with the ex-senator to allow him grab the party’s ticket come 2019 and tried to persuade the senator with huge NDDC contracts as ransom for his demand.
Our impeccable source revealed further that Ekere has found the challenges totally frustrating to shelve his governorship ambition which he nursed since last general elections in 2015.
Obong Ekere was reported to have met with Sen. Udoedeghe who he feels could hinder his gubernatorial dreams in a public function outside the state. The source gingered us that the MD of the NDDC nearly went on his knees to plead for the support of the former governorship candidate in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, but all efforts proved abortive as the senator was said not to be interested in any of the NDDC contract rather but insisted to pursue his gubernatorial dreams.
Our source told us that he had also sent emissaries to Udoedeghe in his bid to pacify the former senator to support him.
According to our linkage the contract was unconnected with the secret plot masterminded by Mr. Ekere to persuade the APC to zone the gubernatorial seat to Eket senatorial district which he hails from and that Ekere’s faction of the APC also met with Umana Okon Umana, who was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2015 to support the zoning of the party’s hilltop mansion to the senatorial district against the ambition of John Udoedeghe.
Recently, a communiqué signed by Mr. Sunday Jacob and Comrade Etido Brownson of the real APC movement Nsit Atai Chapter, had adopted Sen. John Udoedehe as their sole candidate for 2019 and that the area was intact for the senator ahead of 2019.
Meanwhile not less than 1,500 members of the APC defected last week to PDP in Oruk Anam, the home town of the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel courtesy of the SA to the governor Hon Sampson Idiong.
The defection ceremony was witnessed by all the political bigwigs of the PDP including the PDP’s state chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, the leader of the state House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Udo Kerian Akpan and women group.
