Transition Chairman who resign and lost holds Council Secretariat hostage
The immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of Urueoffong Oruko Mrs Precious Selong who resigned to contest for the position of Executive Chairman of Council has refused to open the office she used to occupy to the Acting Transition Chairman Committee Chairman Elder Bassey Esin Bassey.
Mrs Selong whom delegates at the PDP Chairmanship primaries of September 18, 2017 voted out for reasons of her long stay in council as Member Transition Committee in the administration of Edet Okon Isong, Vice Chairman to Okon Osung’s executive administration, Transition Committee Chairman for two and a half year, was contesting to come back as elected Chairman in the incoming Local Government election of December 2, 2017. Mrs Selong is still holding her position of Transition Committee Chairman of the Council as she allegedly claiming that His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel has directed her “to re-take” her position of Chairman of Urueoffong Oruko Local Government Council even when she has resigned. As we speak, the Atg Transition Committee Chairman Elder Bassey Esin Bassey is functioning in nomenclature and not in the capacity due his office.
Unconfirmed report has it that one Mfon who is a Personal Assistant to Hon Selong who was directed to remove the former Transition Committee Chairman pictures from the office, has come back to affix them on the wall. Mfon is holding the key to the Chairman’s office and is restraining the Atg Chairman Elder Bassey to gain access. The present constituted Local Government Council has barely three months life span, hence Mrs Selong is dropping the name of the Governor to scare away the Atg Transition Committee Chairman, for the purpose to be allowed resume duty.
All Transitions Chairmen who resigned to contest the Local Government election of December 2, 2017 had handed over to respective Secretaries of their Councils. Mrs Selong did same through the attached letter and copied relevant quarters and authorities, but she is working tirelessly to come back to her former position. As we speak, many political stakeholders in the area are vehemently opposing Hon. Precious Selong’s surreptitious plan to return to the Council as Chairman. A cold war is brewing in Urueoffong Oruko among the political class, which may soon constitute the area to a flash point, if Mrs Selong still continues to hold on the properties of the Council.
Speaking with a political stakeholder in the area who want his name kept under wrap said a full scale war will erupt in Urueoffong Oruko if the Governor allows Hon Precious Selong to represent the Urueoffong Oruko in the next Joint Account meeting with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
