L.G. Election: APC zones chairmanship position to Southern Ukanafun
All things being equal, the Ukanafun Chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has unanimously zoned the chairmanship position in the forthcoming Local Government elections to Southern Ukanafun Clan. This is even as the party is mapping out strategies to come out successful in the said election.
In an enlarged elders’ caucus meeting held on Sunday 13th August, 2017 at Nsekhe, it was unanimously agreed that southern Ukanafun clan should take their turn in line with the zoning formula, which according to them is already in existence in the local government area.
It will be recalled that the last elected chairman of Ukanafun local government council, Late Hon. Sylvester Udokang was from Afaha bloc, which the elder agreed that the next elected chairman should emerge from Southern Ukanafun bloc of the area.
According to the APC elders’ caucus in Ukanafun, the above explanation gives Ukanafun bloc and by extension, Southern Ukanafun the franchise to present an acceptable candidate for the chairmanship position to further balance the zoning arrangement.
It could also be recalled that the elected chairman that emerged from the 2008 local government election came from Ukanafun bloc, which was in the person of Hon. Aniekan S. Akpan who hails from Northern Ukanafun Clan.
The elders also resolved that all aspirants in the party platform should be prepared to team-up with whoever will emerge as the party’s flag bearer, promising a level playing field and transparent nomination process which had been APC culture at all levels.
They also admonished all party faithful to brace up for the forth coming elections which is a must win to the party in Ukanafun and Akwa Ibom state at large.
The elders however added that the PDP administration in the state has failed Ukanafun people in every sense of its responsibility. The caucus also declared their unalloyed support and loyalty to the party under the leadership of Dr. Amadu Atai and all leaders of the party in the state and nation at large. Present at the meeting were the chapter chairman of APC in Ukanafun, Prince Israel Sam Jacob, the chairman of elders caucus, Hon. Uduak Essien, the caucus secretary Mr. Emmanuel Ukoudom. Other elders in attendance were; Udom James Editor, Friday Otongaran and Hon. Godspower Okongko.
