Everton on Sunday confirmed the emotional re-signing of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney from Manchester United on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman spoke to the official website of the Merseyside club, Sunday on the striker’s return to the Blues.
“Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality – he knows how to win titles and I’m really happy he’s decided to come home,” said Koeman.
“He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don’t have any doubts about his qualities. It’s fantastic he’s here.”
Rooney had an eventful career at Manchester United where he won the Champions League, Europa League, five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three League Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup and scored 323 goals.
His 198 Premier League goals make him the competition’s second top scorer of all time, behind Alan Shearer.
Rooney’s arrival is seemingly to cushion the effect of losing Romelu Lukaku who is on the verge of joining Manchester United.
