WORKSHOP ON RISK REDUCTION ONGOING IN AKWA IBOM
In a bid to curb the spate of disasters in the state, the Akwa Ibom State government will on Thursday, June 29, flag-off a 2-day workshop aimed at risk reduction in the state.
Tagged Enhancing Disaster Management in Akwa Ibom State, the workshop is intended to bring together a cream of highly credible safety professionals and relevant stakeholders to brainstorm on contemporary global best practices in tackling disasters.
The Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo whose office controls Emergency Management in the state has therefore urged the Local Organizing Committee to ensure that all critical stakeholders and relevant agencies are involved in the exercise as it is intended to serve as a train-the-trainers workshop, in order to enable the entire state benefit from the multiplier effect of the exercise.
With participants drawn from government ministries and agencies, local government councils as well as NGOs and communities, the workshop will feature topics covering general safety, warning systems and preparedness, marine safety, prevention of disaster through regulations, building collapse and mitigation, amongst several other critical areas including fire prevention simulation exercise.
A faculty of top-flight Resource Persons led by top directors of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, ExxonMobil, Dejo Investments Ltd and the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong who will also chair the opening session, will present papers at the event.
The workshop which is co-sponsored by ExxonMobil will be formally declared open by the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel at the EEMJM hotels, Uyo.
