…As APC ask God to deliver Nigeria from bad leadership
By Ephraim Ikpe
The ruling Party at the centre of Nigeria seems to be going throw serious trying times in Akwa Ibom State. This could have catapulted the embattled Party into organising what it calls a youth prayer gathering at the campaign office of His Excellency, Mr Nsima Ekere at Four Lanes Uyo to seek Gods face and help.
The said prayer was greeted with many issues and attacks both in the print and social media.
For instance, the said prayer summit claimed to be praying for the Nigerian Presidents speedy recovery and simultaneously asking God to deliver Nigeria from bad leadership, according to the Mandate Eye group in a statement published by some online media platforms and some state-based tabloids.
The group was further worried why the youth prayer network never saw reasons to seek Gods face in the reconciliation of the various factions that have shredded the fabrics of unity of the APC in Akwa Ibom State.
The group alleged that the said prayer, apart from having selfish motives, was selective in content and meant for APC leadership, family members, appointees and ignored the state leadership and its appointees, even the very sibling of the Mr Nsima Ekere.
“Indeed, Mr Ekere took vendetta to an extreme at his own Prayer summit by directing that prayers of Gods blessing should be offered for only APC controlled states in Nigeria, and no word of blessing came for Akwa Ibom State
“In Nsima Ekeres divide and rule tactics, he made sure that prayers were offered for Gods blessing on only federal government appointed officials and none went to Akwa Ibom government appointees, irrespective of whether they were his own siblings, the statement said.
It observed with dismay that the NDDC Managing Director has never organised a prayer summit in Akwa Ibom and has always refused to attend any prayer meeting or solemn assembly organized in Akwa Ibom State.
The group described as phantom the APC Youth prayer submit, arguing that it was laced with political coloration as the about 3000 adults who done the venue of the event were mostly adorned with branded T-Shirts with inscriptions Support ONE 2019 meaning support Obong Nsima Ekere 2019 which the group said was the main essence of the gathering.
The statement said the prayer summit was not only a sham but that it was so poorly handled that no known religious umbrella group or leader (PFN, CAN etc) was invited to the prayers because of the selfish motive and the APC top brass like Umana Umana, Akpan Udoedehe, Nelson Effiong, Otu Ita Toyo, Ita Awak, Ben Ukpong, Don Etiebet and others never showed up including the state Chairman of the, APC, Alhaji Amadu Attai.
The Mandate Eyes group noted that while the prayer summit was going on in the field that somewhere in one of the rooms in that premises Mr Nsima Ekeres campaign structures for 2019 were being inaugurated.
James Akpan, a social media commentator alleged that Mr Ekere was mocking the Presidents ill health by just getting up now to pray for the President and at the same time inaugurating a campaign structure. He even adduced reasons why some chieftains of the APC kept a distance away from the venue of that event thus, Some APC chieftains who refused to attend the mockery prayer questioned the veracity of taking such prayers to Nsima’s campaign office instead of a church or any other venue. They maintained that there is no way Nsima Ekere could wake-up now to pray for Buhari who has been sick and had been travelling for medical treatments for more than a year now, if not for his intention to launch his 2019 campaign.
Another commentator named Uduak Umo alleged that two reasons for Mr Ekeres action could be deduced from his phantom prayers summit last week. Hear him well, The reasons for organising a Christian meeting at this time – pre-electioneering – has two possible explanations that make sense given his non-Christian profession. One, he considers Akwa Ibom people as gullible religious puppies running after religious bait, at any time it’s dangled. That insults the people deliberately. Two, he confirms both his ignorance and arrogant disregard for God and the faith of Christians.
“What I mean is in an analogy where Acting President Osinbajo organizes Muslim prayers at Sokoto for whatever reason. Muslims would consider that desecration, and that’s what any true Christian would feel like who knows Nsima Ekere for what he belongs to – which isn’t secret.
“These things may be politics, but they are dangerous. I like to take pride in my background as a science researcher, and I’m aware how difficult it’d be to find empirical backup for saying this; still I know that Nsima is treading a dangerous terrain toying with solemn assemblies for God”.
However, one of the elders of the APC in the state, Atuekong Don Etiebet disagreed with Mr James Akpan saying that his claims were false.
He stated that the prayer session was organised for APC Youths in Akwa Ibom to pray for the speedy recovery of PMB, and for Nigeria’s continued unity in the midst of all the rancour caused by Biafra and Arewa Youths and to thank God for the PMB administration’s goodness and kindness to Akwa Ibom in awarding the N54 Billion dualisation of Calabar-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Road”.
He argued that it was not an-all APC event which explained why the elders and Leaders were not there as questioned by James Akpan.
Don Etiebet lamented that the youths of APC could not have had any space elsewhere to gather at short notice except Mr Nsima Ekeres playing ground.
In attempt to veneer the Ikot Abasi politician that he was not making a mockery of the President by inaugurating a campaign structure while the prayer session lasted in the field, Don Etiebet stated that he could report authoritatively that Mr Ekere was not in town that day as he met him in Abuja Airport on his way to attend a conference in Europe.
In attempt to defend his party, the youths of APC and the action of Mr Nsima Ekere, Mr Imo Akpan, a Lawyer from Ikono, the State Secretary APC Youth Congress and also State Secretary/Head of Administration Akwa Ibom Grassroots Movement for Buhari/Osinbajo in his Post Script has this to say concerning that alleged phantom prayer summit, It was a prayer for security and prosperity for Nigeria and even judgment on all those who constituted themselves into tin-gods working against and resisting development and prosperity initiatives of the Federal Government for Akwa Ibom people. We sang and we danced”.
In a related development, one of the APC chieftains and Journalist, Thomas Thomas has alleged that Nsima Ekere has paid his media hirelings N250,000.00 each to blackmail Bishop Samuel Akpan who recently defected from Accord Party to the All Progressives Congress.
He wondered why Mr Nsima Ekere would seek to tar Senator Akpabio who he hobnobbed with when Senator Udoedeghe he allegedly earlier blackmailed was busy building APC which has provided him solace today.
According to Thomas Thomas, Nsima Ekere and Bishop Akpan migrated from the same political clan to APC. They are birds of a feather. What Nsima Ekere seeks to do by hiring these men to start attacking him is to appear as a saint before Akwa Ibom people as if he was not one with Akpabio against the people. He wants the people to see Udoedehe and Bishop as Akpabio’s men, and himself as a saint”.
