VOTER REGISTRATION: EKONG SAMPSON URGE AKWA IBOM COMMUNITIES TO EXPLORE THE PROVISIONS

Akwa Ibomites in various parts of the country have been urged to see themselves as stakeholders in the government of their fatherland, hence should take advantage of the various range of options provided by INEC in the Continuous Voter Registration to ensure the best use of their franchise in forthcoming elections.

Special Adviser on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources in the State, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson gave the charge while playing host to President of the Lagos chapter of Akwa Ibom State Community (AKISCOM), Chief Elijah Ifot in Uyo.

Barrister Ekong Sampson commended Akwa Ibom indigenes in Lagos State for maintaining unity and brotherliness, and for being good ambassadors of the State. He encouraged them to keep in touch with the government at home and be part of the new trajectory of capacity building, industrialization, economic diversification, political stability and other development programmes of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration in the State.

The Special Adviser also urged eligible voters in Akwa Ibom State Communities in Lagos and other part of the country to explore opportunities provided in the just inaugurated Continuous Voter Registration to equip themselves with the voter’s card, which is their power to speak in upcoming elections.

He said Akwa Ibom people who could not, for any reason, register during the previous process, or registered in distant states, but wish to vote at home, have nothing to worry about, as INEC has guaranteed concrete arrangements to either register, validate or transfer eligible voters to electoral units of choice. He assured AKISCOM of State Government commitment to ensure Akwa Ibomite are equipped for optimal participation in the nations democratic processes.

AKISCOM President in Lagos State, Chief Elijah Ifot expressed gratitude to the Governor’s Adviser for hosting him and for the concern of the State Government towards indigenes of the State in diaspora.

Chief Ifot said the performance of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration in the State has made Akwa Ibomites in Lagos and other parts of the country proud, especially considering the season of economic recession in the country. He promised optimum sensitization and mobilization towards the exercise, in line with State Government’s intention.
