The member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Otobong Ndem has charged the youths of Mkpat Enin to maintain peace and unity in the area.
The lawmaker, who gave the charge yesterday while interacting with some youths of the area in Ekim, said that there can be no meaningful development and progress in the atmosphere of strife and disunity.
“Mkpat Enin is an important local government in Akwa Ibom State and very dear to Governor Udom Emmanuel but how we project ourselves will determine how we are treated. So far, we are among the biggest beneficiaries of Governor Udom’s administration.
“The number of projects this government has brought to Mkpat Enin clearly shows that Governor Udom Emmanuel has our interest at heart. But sadly, many of our youths have decided be disrupting the projects like the Coconut Refinery and road constructions”.
The lawmaker, who is also the chairman, House Services Committee, said that as a foward-thinking people, Mkpat Enin people must look at the bigger picture and open the door for massive development of the area with the assurance that the area will reap more sustainable dividends in the nearest future.
“We have genuine demands to make but we must also be smart enough to know the best time to make our demands. For instance, if we wait for the Coconut Refinery to be completed before making our demands, then we will get exactly what we want because by then it will be impossible to relocate the project from Mkpat Enin”.
He further called on the youths to come together and join hands with the government by ensuring that all the companies working on the various projects in the area have their maximum support to ensure a timely completion of the projects, assuring them of his avowed commitment to always protect their interest.
