Democracy Day 2018: Akan Okon trapped for questioning

One man who has played a vital role in the cabinet of Governor Udom Emmanuel has been trapped for questioning by members of the Coalition of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State (COOPA).

Well schooled and widely travelled, his name is Mr. Akan Okon.

An Itu born politician and financial expert with experience in the banking sector spanning more than two decades.

Tagged ‘DEMOCRACY DAY Tweet Series’, the interview is to highlight development and spotlight personalities, captains of Industries, Politicians, State and Nation Builders as they discuss achievements in their fields and suggestions to further better the lives of Nigerians. The initiative will feature series of interview sessions with stakeholders in various industries, discussing topics centered around the theme; ‘19 Years of Democracy in Nigeria : Past & Prospects…Akwa Ibom State in focus’.

Mr Okon was off to a great start after his national service year, by joining the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) where he held several positions in Nigeria’s apex bank before his departure. Some of the banks Okon left a stunning imprint include; FinBank and Standard Trust Bank Limited now United Bank for Africa (UBA). At First Inland Bank Plc, where he served as Head Investment Banking, area executive, South South. His job responsibility here was to supervise all the branches of the bank in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Delta States.

He is a member of many professional bodies, some of which include; Fellow, Institute of Sales Management; Fellow, Chartered Institute of Leadership of Nigeria (CILN); member, Institute of Direct Marketing and member, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN). He is also a Fellow, Institute of Management Consultants and recipient of many awards.

He was the Managing Director of Fantixis Investments Limited, a financial advisory firm prior to his appointment as the Commissioner for Finance, now currently serving as Commissioner for Housing & Special Duties.

Despite his tight schedule, Mr Akan Okon will open his doors to new media practitioners on Wednesday, 23rd May 2018 by 10am to review Nigerian democracy from the banking and finance perspective, reaching out to millions of Nigerians via social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram), he is speaking after Barr. Ekong Sampson, Special Advice to the Governor on Political/Legislative Affairs who kicked off on a high note.

Governor Nyesom Wike has announced a new date for the earlier postponed South-South Zonal Presidential Rally of Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). The new date for the rally is the 11th of February, 2019 and its scheduled to hold in the city of Port Harcourt.While inaugurating the Organizing Committees of the rally at the PDP Rivers State Campaign Secretariat in Port Harcourt. Governor Wike said to the party must invest the highest level of commitment at ensuring that the rally was not only a remarkable success but also made a bold national statement about the binding affinity of the region with the Peoples Democratic Party.The Committees, which drew membership from across the South South States of Nigeria, were charged by the host State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.In attendance at the inauguration were Brother Emmanuel Ogidi, the Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and the State Party Chairmen of the South South States. The brief ceremony was immediately followed by committee meetings.

The immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Dr Uduak Udo-Inyang, has expressed appreciation and unflinching loyalty to Governor Udom Emmanuel for the opportunity given him to serve in the State Executive Council.

In a letter of appreciation signed and made available to our reporter, Dr Udo-Inyang said “I write to convey my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for giving me the opportunity to serve in the State Executive Council as Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency from December 1, 2016, to May 15, 2019.”

The immediate past Commissioner acknowledged and appreciated the support he received from his colleagues and the Governor, which according to him, “enabled us record many accomplishments during this period.”

“Indeed, working with you, a God fearing, humane, hardworking, result-oriented and focused leader was an experience that has impacted positively on my person. It was a privilege for me to be in the circle of the victorious #OnlyGod team,” the letter stated.

Dr Udo-Inyang further expressed appreciation to God and the people of the state and assured of his love at all times.
