What Will Happen To Akpabio If He Decamps To APC -Reno Omokri Reveals

Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, has said that former Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Senator Godswill Akpabio, will have all his sins forgiven if he decamps to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to Akpabio’s visit to President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, Omokri said in a tweet, that even the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), will “pass over” him.

“Behold Akpabio, all your sins have been forgiven. When @officialEFCC sees the broom, EFCC will Passover!” he wrote.

Akpabio, who won his seat in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is believed to be set to decamp to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmaker’s meeting with Buhari came after the President’s Special Assistant on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla’s post on Facebook on Saturday night.

Obono-Obla stated that Akpabio will be received into APC on Thursday by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and other top leaders of the party at a rally in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Ikot Abasi stands still for Kufre Ufot as Edemeya insist on AKHA

By Kenneth Jude

The people of Edemeya have made a case for the House of Assembly ahead of 2019 following what they described as the marginalisation of the area in the scheme of things.

This is even as the House of Assembly aspirant for Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency in 2019, Elder Kufre Ufot consulted Edemeya community on Monday.

Addressing the people at Edemeya Unity Hall, the renowned Estate Surveyor urged the people of Edemeya to stand firm for justice and avoid the temptation of selling their right for a mess of pottage.

The Estate Surveyor described such politics as that of Esau, stressing that such politics will be detrimental to the overall development of Edemeya and its people.

Elder Ufot pledged to embark on job creation that will make the youths have a sustainable means of livelihood. Rather than giving them fish, he promised to teach them how to fish so that they’ll not only be self-sufficient but also empower others.
He described Edemeya as major stakeholders in the politics of Ikot Abasi hence should use their numbers widely in order to fast track the development of the community.

Hon. Ufot reeled out the zoning arrangement of the area over the years, noting that it is the turn of Edemeya to produce the next lawmaker for the constituency.

He called on the people not to allow political parties destroy the bond of unity that exist in Edemeya, adding that “political parties will come and go, but the community will remain.”

He urged the people to get their PVCs as that’s the tool they’ll use to cast their votes in 2019. He decried the shabby manner women are treated whereby rappers are handed to them with much fanfare, pointing out women deserve more than that. “It’s shameful,” he said.

He promised to hold constituency briefing twice a year, stressing that if elected, he’ll protect their interest at all times and attract quality projects to the area that will enhance the lives of the people.

Responding, former Councillor and current Vice Chairman l, Mboho Edemeya, Hon. Friday Jonathan urged the people of Edemeya to support Elder Ufot’s ambition, adding that he’s their son hence should be supported to succeed by all well meaning sons and daughters of the area.

On his part, the Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, Eteidung James Aniema, called on elders, women and the youths to stand by the aspirant. He described him as a giver who does not care where one comes from. “I know him to be a giver. And I assure you that with him as our representative, we have nothing to fear. He’ll change our fortunes.” He noted that for over twenty years, Edemeya has not produced a legislator, stressing that the time is ripe to correct the anomaly.

Former vice Chairman of Ikot Abasi local government area, Obong Aniefiok Brown, said he has rejected monetary inducement in order to stand for what is fair and just. He stated that Edemeya people are earnestly yearning for the House of Assembly Seat, adding that those saying that only a second termer can becoming a ranking member in the legislature miss the point.

He noted that what makes one a ranking member is the person’s ability to acquit himself well and have a good working relationship with his colleagues in the House.
He appealed to the people not to allow ephemeral desires affect their long term gains.
“Don’t allow hunger to make you sell your right. Stand for justice. I play politics of truth and nothing else,” he stated.

Obong Aniefiok Brown, former vice chair, Ikot Abasi: we’ve rejected money because we need our man to go. Edemeya has nothing. They should tell us our interest in 2019. I’ve searched myself and I know o have my integrity intact. I won’t sell edemeya interest. Edemeya needs House of Assembly Seat. Says what gives u a ranking position is how u acquit yourself in the House. Don’t deceive is with news of ranking member for second term. Let’s stand with Kufre Ufot. Don’t allow hunger to make u sell your right. I play politics of truth and nothing else.

The youth leader of Edemeya, Mr. Friday Ibuot, noted that the aspirant will make the people happy especially the youths if elected as lawmaker. He spoke about how Hon. Ufot supported him when he had a Challenge while in the Polytechnic. He described him as one that has the interest of Edemeya at heart. Ibuot called on youths and indeed all Edemya indegines to stand by Elder Ufot Abd give him their maximum support. “Preach the gospel of Elder Kufre Ufot wherever you go. Stand for your right,” he said.

The woman leader of Edemeya, Mrs. Maria Akpaneyen, said she had to shelve all her plans for the day when she was told that Hon. Kufre Ufot was visiting. The reason for that she said is based on the things the aspirant has done and the lives he has impacted as a private citizen. He’s a good man that’s why I’m here,” she said.
On this, she expressed optimism that he’ll do more when he goes to the house of Assembly. She urged women to give the aspirant their full support.

Eka Iban, Mrs. Maria Akpaneyen: when I heard he’s coming, I said am going nowhere because fatback, he did a lot. He’s good that’s why am here. He’s good in many ways. Shocking Tales!

UNIUYO students allegedly found finger nail, cockroach in food bought in school cafeteria

UNIUYO students allegedly found finger nail, cockroach in food bought in school cafeteria

Prof. Enefiok Essien, VICE CHANCELLOR UNIVERSITY OF UYO

Abasifreke Effiong

Students of the University of Uyo have raised alarm over poor sanitary values and hygiene standard of the food sold to them in the university’s cafeteria and other outlets in the annex and town campuses of the institution.

Mkpouto Udomin, a 400 level student in the Department of Communication Arts said “student’s lives are at stake”, after she reportedly found a finger nail in a plate of soup she claimed to have bought at the university’s cafeteria on Monday July 16.

Other students have been sickening claims that they had at different times found cockroach, strands of hair, and worm, in food they bought from vendors on campus.

Mkpouto wrote on her timeline on facebook that she wish she could vomit everything she had eaten after chewing someone’s finger nail in the soup.

“Just few minutes ago, I was eating editan soup I bought from UNIUYO cafeteria and I found myself chewing something endlessly after I must have finished my food, just to bring it out and realise that it is someone’s finger nail”.

She further wrote, “Early in 2017, something dangerous occurred while eating with my friends. I kept perceiving this strong odour (the kind that comes from toilet), while eating and drinking sachet water, I looked around but no toilet, only to find out that the foul odour was from the sachet water which they serve[d] me. God knows I don’t know where the[y] kept it”.

Another student, Aniebiet Nkanga corroborated the water incident.
“I remember the smelly water incidence. This post just reminded me of the earthworm I saw in a soup I bought at a popular place at town campus…”

Following Mkpouto’s post, James Otu, identified to be a former student of the university wrote that he once found a cockroach in the food he bought from one of the restaurants on campus.

“I thought I was in this alone, mine was matured (sic) cockroach in one of the restaurant[s] in the campus”.

Another student, Magdalene Ekpo, wrote, “That is the same way I saw a fly in soup while eating in one of the canteens in town campus and I called the attention of the vendor, he apologised about it and nothing has changed after then. Other students still complain about something worst (sic) than that…”

A final student in the faculty of Arts, Emaemek Usanga, said she has had very sad experiences with food vendors selling on campus.

“I’ve had experience of seeing ants and other insects in the food I bought from one of the food vendors. Like the one that happened today, she was coughing while serving food, without even covering her mouth”.

UNIUYO students allegedly found finger nail, cockroach in food bought in school cafeteria

Uniuyo cafeteria

On Wednesday morning, July 17, during a visit to the university, this reporter observed that there were about ten food vendors selling in front of both the male and female hostels in the annex campus.

The number of students who queued up to buy food from mobile food vendors were more than those seen eating in the university’s cafeteria at about 9:09a.m.

A woman was sighted in front of W1 hostel alighting from a car and handing over a food flask and fruits to a female student, who probably is her child.

Some students whom this reporter spoke to said students preferred buying food from mobile food vendors to buying from the cafeteria because of the poor quality of food in the cafeteria and the cost of a plate of food.

Three students who ate in the cafeteria that morning obliged to speak with this reporter on condition of anonymity.

One of them said, he was aware of complaints over food served in the cafeteria, but he has not found anything odd in his food before.

“I have been eating here sometimes, when I feel like eating soup in the morning. I have not had any bad experience before. But I have heard complaints from other students”.

Another student whom this reporter knew when she did her industrial attachment few months ago at The Sun newspaper’s office in Uyo, was among the students who ate in the cafeteria on that morning.

She said, “the quality of food served in the cafeteria is sometimes very bad.
Two weeks ago, I was eating soup here [in the cafeteria] and I saw a little cockroach in it. It was disgusting. I wanted to raise alarm, but when I looked around two other people who sat close to me were eating the same soup, I couldn’t do anything because If I had raised an alarm, there would have been crisis. So I just left the food and walked away. There are days you come here and order for soup, just to discover that the soup they are serving is not fresh. It is probably the one they cooked the previous day and sometimes unfortunately, the soup was not properly preserved and has began to get sour”, she said.

Another student said she once found a long strand of hair in the garri she ate in the cafeteria.

The cafeteria constructed in year 2000, has a large dining hall for students, a confectionery where students take practical classes on entrepreneurship; stores, and staff dining.

The cafeteria is a nice piece of architecture, with a well laid out sitting arrangement. Dust had settled on most of the tables and seats in the student’s dining hall. It appeared the cleaners working in the cafeteria do not clean all the dining tables and chairs daily. Students who eat in the cafeteria per time hardly fill up half of the seats.

Othen Wednesday July 17 when this reporter visited, the dining hall was slightly dark, only a few bulbs at the service point were lit. Waitresses serving food in the cafeteria do not cover their hairs.

Despite manifold odd experiences shared by students about the poor standard of hygiene of food sold by vendors in the school, supervising staff, and management of the school have insisted that their claims are false.

A supervisor in the cafeteria said no student has reported any case against the food vendors to him since he resumed duty January this year.

The Dean of Students in the university, Dr. Aniekan Brown, insisted that the claims were “creations” of the students.

“I am saying that the claims are a figment of those students’ imagination. If you ask me, those issues do not exist, because they have not been reported to me.
There are committees on sanitary values, and welfare, so if such cases have not come through those committees, my take is that those students want to heat up the system”.

Brown said he has been paying unannounced visits to the cafeteria and have been asking students about the quality of services rendered to them, and all the time, students’ responses have been positive.

None of the students whom this reporter interacted with who claimed they have been eating in the cafeteria regularly could confirm that they had for once met the Dean of students in the cafeteria.

When Mkpouto Udomin, was contacted on phone for the purposes of finding out what actions she has taken after she purportedly found the finger nail in her food, she said “Please, I do not need to stress myself on that issue. That is not the first time such a thing is happening. I told you about the water incident last year. What did they do when I reported it to them (referring to the waitresses in the cafeteria). I am not the first person who has complained about this, and I know I won’t be the last”.

The Dean of students maintained that management is not clairvoyant and do not know everything happening on campus except it is brought to her notice by students and structures overseeing those places.

“I have people overseeing those places, and we meet every two weeks. None of them has reported such a case to me. So if a student says something has happened and the system is not aware, then it never happened. There are students who want to forment trouble, because if they had wanted to solve the problem, they would have processed information to the authorities”.

He insisted that the university screens vendors before they are allowed to sell in the school.

However, there are scores of mobile vendors hawking food around hostels in the university.

Brown said the university management will not take it kindly with any food vendor who violates rules.

“There is no vendor who violates the terms of engagement that this my office will spare for the next one second”, the Dean added.
