Former Super Eagles strikers Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Daniel Amokachi were Nigeria’s scorers against China as former Nigeria internationals began their quest for glory at the inaugural edition of the Star Sixes Football Tournament in London on Thursday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The former Nigeria internationals captained by mercurial midfielder Austin Jay Jay Okocha defeated the Asians 3-2 at the O2 Arena London on Thursday night with Aiyegbeni scoring a brace while Amokachi netted one.
Aiyegbeni scored two quick goals for Nigeria before Amokachi added the third with a delicate chip over Chinese keeper Li Wei.
China qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2002 when fellow Asian countries, Korea Republic and Japan co-hosted the competition.
In the opening game of the tournament, England lost 4-1 to Spain, then Scotland defeated Mexico 3-1.
Portugal defeated Denmark 6-4 before Germany edged out France 4-3.
Brazil and Italy will finish off the opening day’s fixtures Thursday night. Brazil won 2-1.
