In a petition dated 18th April 2017, three serving Supervisors of Itu Transition Committee, namely Ubong Edem – Supervisor for Works, Kufre Ema – Supervisor for Special Duties and Emem Uboh – Supervisor for Health called on the state House of Assembly to set up a probe panel to look into the management of funds and contract Awards/implementation in the Council, since the assumption of office of Mrs Elsie Esara as the Chairman.
Their grouse is that there is a gross mismanagement of funds, taking arbitrary decisions and most importantly, claiming that the Internally Generated Revenue accruing to the Council is used in settling Bills for the First Lady, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel; and also settle some stakeholders including Distinguished Senator Anietie Okon, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, Hon Henry Archibong, Mr. Akan Okon, Hon Effiong Ebong and Mr Victor Okon.
The petitioners copied Hon Idongesit Ntekpere, Chairman House Committee on Local Government/Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Idongesit Ituen, Hon (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis, Chairman House Committee on Justice, Human Right & Public Petitions, Commissioners for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs and the Transition Chairman of Itu
The petition would not have aroused much attention but for the caliber of people mentioned as beneficiaries of the Internally Generated Revenue funds, including Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, Distinguished Senator Anietie Okon, Hon Henry Archibong among others
The transition Committee Chairman Mrs Elsie Esara vehemently denied all the allegations, she denied ever telling the Committee Members that she is using Internally Generated Revenue funds to settle any politician, she bemoans the insult on the First Lady and other personalities she posited that the decision to use the IGR to build a befitting Market Office was taken in one of the Finance and General Purpose Committee Meetings.
In a release signed by five of the Transition Committee Members; Hons Itido Udoibit, Udeme Utip, Nicloas Effiong, Patrick Ekpenyong and Antonia Udoette, the members exonerated the Transition Chairman of any wrong doing, they apologized on behalf of the committee to the Politicians insulted in the petition, particularly Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel. They emmerated the achievements of their government to include, the Ultra modern market at Etaha Itam, Drainage in Etaha Itam Market, Edorido Modern Market at North Itam, On-going Oku Iboku Modern Market opposite Cross River Basin Development Authority, empowerment of 167 women and youth for farming, empowerment of 140 youth from the area.
The five supervisors dissociated themselves from the petition and passed a confidence vote on the Transition Chairman.
The petition by the three reneged Supervisors is really unfortunate apart from the fact that the issues they raise are baseless; dragging the names of such eminent personalities to this frivolous allegation is an anomaly. According to the Transition Chairman, these are the same set of members who approached her on inception to take them as inner caucus members, who should be privy to any financial matter before other members. They have never forgiven her for not ‘complying’ with their demands; dragging the names of some politicians into the fury points to a Fifth Columnist who has an Ox to grind. This occurrence should be a food for thought whenever there is an opportunity to serve, people with sound minds should be selected; stable characters who will not be willing tools in the hands of devil’s advocates. This petition has more to it than meet the eyes; it has a lot to do with political permutation of 2019. Some politicians believe that rubbishing some politicians will give them free tickets in a platter of gold.
The rising profile of Mrs. Elsie Esara due to her solid achievements in so short a time, is giving some politicians sleepless nights. Sending the threesome on this show of shame is an abrasion, it is a big disservice to the good people of Itu, a show of desperado and putting the cart before the horse. It is on record that the Transition Chairman of Itu Mrs. Elsie Esara is the initiator of the free toll on every Thursday market days of the month which was heartily adopted by the state governor Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel
The so called beneficiary of the Internally Generated Revenue of Itu are renown statesmen who collectively see to it that things are done in an orderly manner in Itu, as opposed to the era of Cultism as a prerequisite for elective positions. The desperados with the spanner in the works are bent on bringing Itu back to the era of dark ages
Tricksters should be weary lest they trick themselves in the act. This petition is really, a ‘hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob’, the sponsor believes he is very clever by hiding under the three fall guys, but he is hiding in the open! The political permutation in Itu is sacrosanct; the era of rascality is over. Itu must reap the dividends of democracy as in the building of the Ultra Modern Market, Edorido Market, Oku-Iboku Market. The era of sharing money to politicians is over, and over for good.
Let all progressive minded politicians join hands and build Itu
