The State Commissioner for culture and tourism, Mr. Victor Antai has charged Max Allegra, the firm seeking partnership with the State government to design the Akwa Ibom Unity Park, along Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo to ensure that the original features of the park as envisaged by the founder, the former governor of the State, Obong Victor Bassey Attah are not destroyed but harnessed for greater impact.
Antai gave the charge in his office when the Chairman of the Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investment, a body reviewing the negotiation process between the firm and the State government led officials of Max Allegra to his office on a courtesy visit.
He said the State government is willing to enter into a PPP arrangement with the firm, as the Unity Park if designed and remodeled will become a great tourist attraction for the State.
The Commissioner disclosed that the State is blessed with over eighty six tourist sites and promised to make available to the firm the State’s tourist guide in the next couple of days while the compendium will follow soon after.
Earlier, the Chairman of Technical Committee on Foreign Direct Investment, Mr. Gabriel Ukpeh assured the Commissioner that the body will redouble its effort to facilitate immediate conclusion of the process.
Also speaking, the General Counsel of Max Allegra, Mr. Charles Edeki promised to expedite action on their part and expressed the hope that with the pace the Ministry is working, any assistance needed towards this end will be provided on time.
In attendance at the courtesy visit were some directors in the Ministry and some tourism stakeholders from the State.
