AGAIN: NAFDAC SEALS 5 BREAD PROCESSING PLANTS IN AKWA IBOM

 

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, in Akwa Ibom State, has shut down five unlawful bread processing plants working in the state.

Different manufacturing plants shut down incorporate sachet water and a pharmaceutical organizations, located up at various areas in the state.

The companies were sealed for various offences ranging from non-registration of business, non-compliance with specified standard practices and refusal to subject products to analysis and tests before introducing same to the market.

The State Coordinator of the agency, Mr. Collins Ogedegbe, who briefed newsmen in Uyo, said that most of the manufacturing companies have so far complied with the agency’s established operational standard.

He said: “We have closed down five illegal bread manufacturing companies, one table water company and one pharmaceutical company this year.”

He said the agency’s mandate include putting dubious people out of business and ensuring that the right thing is done and Nigerians are not put at risk.

He said that the agency had created awareness in the 31 local government areas of state, which has led to the registration of more businesses, especially in the rural areas.

The Coordinator said that lack of operational vehicles had slowed down routine checks on businesses centres.

Ogedegbe added: “Since we do not have operational vehicles, we sometimes find it difficult to go out on routine checks; it is really affecting our operations here.”
